The Archdiocese of Kingston Youth Office & Vocations Office started a new initiative in Summer 2017 for youth of the archdiocese: Totus Tuus (Latin for Totally Yours). Totus Tuus is a faith-based summer camp. It was such a success we are offering it again this Summer! A team of four trained young adults from our archdiocese will travel to each deanery, sharing the faith through catechetical instruction, daily Mass, music, themed activities, and games!
➢ The grade school program, for children entering grades 1-6, runs Monday-Friday from 9am –2:30pm (With an option of extended day care). The Intermediate/High School program for Grades 7-12 runs Sunday – Thursday from 7 pm – 9 pm.
➢ We partner with the Archdiocese of Toronto’s Totus Tuus program, so our team will be trained with the Toronto missionaries.
Totus Tuus Missionaries
➢ Totus Tuus Missionaries are post-secondary education students and seminarians, who will be returning to full-time studies in September 2020. They may also be young leaders who have recently completed post-secondary education. Missionaries are hired based on:
1. Their love for the faith
2. Commitment to spiritual growth
3. Ability to make the Catholic faith "real" for children and youth
4. Previous experience and an understanding of parish ministry
5. Confident persons who are able to work well as part of a team
6. Willingness to travel weekly from parish to parish offering a day and evening program to youth
7. Comfortable speaking to large groups.
➢ Missionaries are paid minimum wage for 40 hours a week. They are paid for the 4 weeks of training and 4 weeks of camp.
Here are some important dates for the upcoming year of Totus Tuus. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
➢ Missionaries will be billeted during their weeks of camp at parishioner’s homes. The two female team members will billet together, and the two males will billet together. There may be times when the entire team is hosted by one family.
➢ Host homes will provide breakfast for team members.
➢ Volunteers in the parish will coordinate lunch and dinner for the team during their stay at the parish. ➢ Ideally, one team member will drive the team from site to site. They will be reimbursed mileage and gas.
➢ Each camp site will have a parish coordinator for the team leader / team to liaison with.
➢ There will be parish volunteers (high school students and adults) to help the team during camp programming (depending on numbers)
➢ The extended day care after the grade school program will be supervised by volunteers and not the missionary team.
➢ Sometimes the evening camp won’t be run in a parish (depends on numbers) – you will know ahead of time which weeks this will happen.
