Living our lives in service to one another is exactly what God asks of all of us. He gave us the perfect example of this, when He washed the feet of His disciples at the Last Supper. Throughout their lives our priests have washed our feet – caring for us in our parish communities, our homes, our schools, and our hospitals. They have given of themselves tirelessly to establish vibrant parish communities where there were none; they have administered the sacraments to us, comforted and counseled us during difficult times in our lives; they have established youth programs to keep the faith burning in the hearts of our young people, strengthened our faith and provide spiritual direction to us through catechesis. They have encouraged and supported our lay efforts so that we might be actively involved in our own faith development and parish communities. They have rebuilt crumbling churches, established school boards, managed fundraising campaigns, cared for the homeless, established social justice programs, and welcomed and helped new immigrants to make a new start in a country. They have done it all with great love for us and for God. Now it is our turn.
Called by God, our priests have lived their lives in service to us. Now it is our turn, and, through the Priests’ Retirement Fund, we are honoured to be able to serve them.
